Our Story
Headquartered in Indianapolis, SmartFile is made up of a team of tech junkies passionate about big data and file sharing. And we aren't your average company either. We pride ourselves on our talent, as each of our team members has no less than ten years of Internet and/or entrepreneurial experience.
Two serial entrepreneurs, John Hurley and Ben Timby, founded SmartFile in 2009. Their idea was to create a simple web-based FTP product, and in the fall of that year, SmartFile was released for public consumption.
Since then, SmartFile has served thousands of companies and has helped share millions of files in over 140 countries. From Fortune 500 companies to the one-man enterprise, SmartFile has been the trusted platform chosen by customers to move big data in a secure environment.
Most importantly, SmartFile is a customer-centric company, sharing the belief that the software we develop is something that we cannot solely take the credit for. The features and makeup of our product is a result of our communication with the people who matter, our customers.
SmartFile is a self-funded, debt-free venture that is continuing to grow at a fast pace.

Team Members

Chris Sheaves
Director of Products - I'm tasked with managing and overseeing the evolution of SmartFile's products and solutions. I listen to our customers and translate to our engineers.
Kevin O'Keefe
Internet Marketing Manager - I design, develop, and manage all digital marketing materials for SmartFile. My job is to make sure SmartFile looks good all the time.
Ryan Johnston
Interactive Web Engineer - As Interactive Web Engineer, I am responsible for developing and QA testing the SmartFile application. I am also responsible for bringing innovative ideas to management.
Sean Farley
Senior Software Engineer - I design parts of the API, in addition to writing code and unit tests. I also take pride in telling Brian and John how much better Android phones are than 'Snapple' phones.
John Hurley
President - As President of SmartFile, my role is to find the right people and give them the tools and resources they need to grow both professionally and personally.
Brian Dowden
Director of Client Services - My job is to make sure customers are happy with the product and continue to use it. I am also responsible for being awesome 100% of the time. So far my record is flawless.
Ben Timby
Chief Technology Officer - I head up the operations and engineering of SmartFile’s application.
