Meet the Bake-Off Judges: Round 4 with Michael Coffey

March Madness is approaching. Spring is near…hopefully!  And, the 2013 SmartFile Platform Bake-Off teams have 45 more days to compete, create and collaborate. With registration now remaining open until April 18, we aren’t sure how many innovative apps will be submitted in the end. But, we are certain that only three teams will leave the final judging party on April 23 with a piece of the 7,000 cash prize.

When it comes to bringing ideas to life and forging new, strategic visions for development, we would assume that hundreds of  business professionals would recommend speaking with Michael Coffey.

As a Partner of DeveloperTown, the innovate venture development and acceleration firm headquartered in Indianapolis, Michael’s agile in his role that varies from overseeing projects to executing sales and marketing.

We’re honored to have Michael as a judge at the 2013 SmartFile Platform Bake-Off. We had a quick “Q&A” with Michael so you could get to know him a little better.

So, Michael, what are you most excited about as a member of the judging panel?

I am actually excited to see true problem solving at work. In the world that we live in today, we constantly have to find ways to get through roadblocks in front of us. It takes a good mix of crazy with thoughtful intent to truly find innovative ways to press forward and grow businesses.

When thinking about your experience and the fundamental tools/characteristics that you feel shape success, what advice can you provide our Bake-Off teams?

Honestly, I would love to get on a soapbox here, but it comes down to building a solution that ignited your passion, make sure to take those risks, and keep your integrity in check. I will tell you that I, at one point or another, have failed at all of these.

Can you briefly expand on your role at DeveloperTown and how your business operates?

I am a Partner at DeveloperTown and focus right now on making sure the community understands who we are and what we do. In short, Sales and Marketing. The reality is that we do love startups because it has a close ring to all of our hearts, but startups really represent a minority role in the revenue side of our business. We are through and through a product shop. We have built a team that can take a product from concept through true design (UI, UX and Visual) and into development. All of this is under one roof, which really allows us to constantly improve our process while providing organizations that work with us quicker time to market.

On behalf of the entire SmartFile team, we would like to thank Michael for his participation at the 2013 SmartFile Platform Bake-Off! Be sure to follow Michael @CoffeyHouse and DeveloperTown @developertown on Twitter!
