If you don’t know by now, we’re hosting a student programming competition we’ve dubbed The 2013 SmartFile Platform Bake-Off.  We asked Indiana colleges to gather their most brilliant student minds into teams of two and create something great that uses our SmartFile API 2.0.  Oh yeah, and we’re giving away $17,000 to the top 3 teams.  This 50 day event has been going strong, but we are now in the final week before teams submit their projects.

Over the past weekend, SmartFile hosted a Hackathon we appropriately titled “Bake-Off-athon”.  This 24 hour event pushed the student programmers to their limits while they battled to finish their projects. The teams that were able to attend got help directly from our developers and engineers.  Our SmartFile team had a great time, and we learned a few things on the way:

  • Developers can never have enough Red Bull for an overnight event
  • Pizza seems to be a great fuel for their innovative minds
  • Students possess a knack for scooter riding
  • Our API is easy to work with and can help contribute to awesome projects
  • These students are really amazing programmers

The deadline is tomorrow (April 18th) at 11:59 PM (EST) for students to submit their projects.  Our SmartFile team will determine the top 10.  Those top 10 student teams will pitch their applications to our panel of judges on April 23rd.  The judges will determine the top 3 teams.  Those top 3 will present their projects to an audience of over 200 people at our Bake-Off Party later that night of April 23rd.

If you are in the Indianapolis area and are interested in attending the Bake-Off Party to help determine the winner of competition, please email us at bakeoff@smartfile.com.  We will contact you with information on how to RSVP.  Stay tuned for more Bake-Off updates as we determine our winner very soon!
